A2M Therapy
What is A2M therapy? You may have heard of stem cell or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy in regenerative medicine, but you may not know about A2M therapy. A2M therapy is a relatively new treatment in the field of regenerative medicine. This state-of-the-art treatment involves administering alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) injections into damaged joints. It is a highly effective treatment for arthritis-related symptoms.
What is A2M Therapy and How is it Used in Orthopedics?
Many people in the United States suffer from arthritis. In fact, it is estimated that over 25 million people are suffering with it at any given time. Traditional treatments for arthritis include rest, ice therapy, heat therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and corticosteroid injections. Treatments for advanced arthritis are surgical procedures like total joint replacement.
A2M therapy is a revolutionary treatment that can significantly improve arthritis symptoms, bringing patients much needed relief. A2M does this by inhibiting the breakdown of cartilage caused by arthritis, overuse, or injury. As a result, the progression of arthritis can be slowed down.
How does it work? Let’s find out.
How does A2M Work for Arthritis or Joint Pain?
Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) is found naturally in the blood. Like platelet-rich plasma, A2M is obtained from a blood sample that is then concentrated by your physician. A2M is added to a solution and injected directly into the area affected by arthritis.
Research shows that A2M binds to damaging chemicals that affect the inflammation from the degeneration of cartilage. Reducing the inflammatory process is what inhibits arthritis-related pain and damage. Because A2M binds to these chemicals, it reduces the risk of cartilage getting damaged.
