Regenerative medicine, stem cells, orthobiologics, medicinal signaling cells? All different terms for the same practice of taking one’s own cells and redirecting them to an affected location to potentially restore function and reduce pain. Many studies are beginning to show how over the long term, patients are finding long lasting relief, without the use of steroids or more invasive procedures such as surgery.
There are several different procedures that can be performed to harvest your tissues, minimally process them, and re-introduce them to the area of need. All with the same general principal of reducing the chronic and acute inflammatory processes, restarting/kickstarting the healing process, and getting the patient back to living their life and doing what they love.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP injections, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a process where the patients own blood is drawn, separated in to different layers based on their density, and the red blood cells and platelet poor plasma are removed, leaving you with a concentrated product of your platelets which carry multiple growth, anti-inflammatory and healing factors which, when applied at the appropriate site under the right conditions has the potential to give significant clinical relief of the patients symptoms
Adipose Injections
Adipose injections are similar in theory, where the small pericytes that surround the larger adipose (fat) cells contain similar factors, along with the actual cushioning effects of the fat cells. The fat is extracted, minimally processed and applied at the affected area.
Bone Marrow Aspirate Injections
Finally, Bone marrow aspirate is yet another option, and is the injection traditionally thought of as the stem cell injection. However, most recent studies have shown few, if any actual stem cells present, however, just like the adipose and PRP injections, there are other signaling factors in the bone marrow which help guide the body to heal itself and regain function and reduce pain.
These different injections all have different indications and require a personalized approach to determine the best treatment option. Schedule your appointment to begin your road to recovery.
